Enhancement Grants in Action

Through the Enhancement Grants program, the Trojan Foundation makes funds available to professional and support staff through the awarding of mini-grants. Eligible staff can apply for mini-grants to provide an innovative and unique educational opportunity for their classroom or program. Enhancement Grants may also be used to supplement the arts and athletics. In all cases, the grants augment, but do not replace, the publicly funded programs and services already offered by the District.

Since 2006, the Trojan Foundation awarded nearly $250,000 in grants to support innovative projects within Derry Township School District:


Biology: Learning Through Doing

The purchase of a Vernier CO2 sensor used to measure carbon dioxide production/consumption by animals and plants.

 

Composer in Residency

A program that allows high school band students to work with a professional composer and see music theory come to life

Kid Biz

A web-based reading program that improves literacy through differentiated instruction matching non-fiction reading content to individual student reading levels in the elementary school

 

Blue Sky Puppet Theatre

An innovative assembly for elementary school students with an anti-bullying theme

Middle School Lifetime Fitness

The purchase of cardio-fitness and strength-training equipment designed to promote lifetime fitness for middle school age students

 

Service Memorial

Through a gift from the Hershey High School Class of 1956, a permanent memorial to graduates who have served in the armed forces has been installed at the high school

 

Biology: Learning Through Doing The purchase of an experiential learning component beyond the routine science experiments associated with the regular curriculum

Explore learning A web-based mathematical and scientific simulation program for middle schoolers

Music Recording Equipment Specialized recording equipment enhancing the Middle School’s ensemble groups as well as support other cross-curricular initiatives.

Free Voluntary Reading A Spanish classroom library center for middle school foreign language students

CD/DVD Duplication The purchase of hardware that will allow Middle School teachers to make multiple copies of compact discs or DVDs containing educational presentations or musical ensemble recordings.

GPS/GIS in the Classroom & Community Integration of GPS and GIS technology in Hershey High School social studies classrooms to enhance students’ geographic sense of place and to allow students to actively collect and analyze demographic and geographic data from the community.

Climate of Safety & Civility A grant to the Community Task Force to create and host a public workshop in the areas of civility and a safe and secure learning environment for all students

Middle School Laptops The purchase of 56 LAM Systems EEEPC 4G mini-lap top computers for use by Middle School students across curriculum areas.

Yamaha Music Education System An electronic keyboard system utilized in Middle School General Music classes.

Memorial Field Lighting Upgrade The installation of additional lighting to improve safety in the bullpen areas at Memorial Field

Active Expressions A computer-based student response system that allows students to answer questions or share concepts on interactive display boards

Artist in Residence A program that allows students K-12 to work with a professional muralist and see public artwork evolve from design to completion
